The History of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ
of Marshfield Wisconsin.
St Paul’s was started by a group of German men in the fall of 1893. The official name was St. Paul’s Evangelical Church; and was associated with the Evangelical Synod of North America. The next year they bought a lot on the corner of 4th and Vine and that church still stands on that corner, currently vacant. The Evangelical church merged in 1939 with the Reformed church and merged once again in 1957 with the Congregational and Christian churches which was the start of The United Church of Christ. The congregation and its leadership recognized that the current building was land locked and could not be updated to be handicapped accessible. The congregation purchased the current land at 1310 E. 8th street and held its dedication Sunday there on May 16th, 2004. Today the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ remembers and cherishes its roots and history but challenges itself to look into the future and beyond the physical walls to reach out to the community and well beyond. The year 2011 saw St Paul’s UCC buy a water well for Uganda, help feeding the hungry through the crop walk, donating food to the food or socks pantry, by serving dinners at St Vincent De Paul’s, and the congregation helped raise $1000.00 to help widows and children in several small villages in Guatemala. The faith, determination and generosity of St. Paul’s UCC is truly making it the“fragrance of Christ” to all the world.
May God bless St. Paul’s and it’s ministry to the world in all the years to come.
We are glad you are here!
